These are two of the images posted on X.
@cinebox @futurebird @alexwild In the dumpster they are legally abandoned property. The only way they could charge anyone for even loading all of them into a rescue truck is for passing any "no trespassing" signs.
This legality is the reason cops are allowed to fish in your trash for interesting things, and the same law suggests fishing in that dumpster for interesting books.
The mass book dumping is missing only the flames and swastika armbands of 1930's style Nazi book burnings. This is the first stage in a likely mass transfer of higher education in Florida to ownership by churches. The most common churches here are Southern Baptists.
If the Black churches were able to get control of a major university though, DeSantis would have no further voice against it and would be powerless to stop DEI classes from becoming degree requirements etc. That would go along way towards getting rid of things like College Repugnicans and that sort of thing. DeSantis would not like getting credit for that one.
They are throwing away an entire library, not all of the content is related to LGBTQ topics I suspect.
I mean a lot gets tossed out with the bathwater when you throw out the baby... or ... IDK if that metaphor made sense but hopefully you know what I mean.
@blairbarley @futurebird @alexwild There is a conflation here between normal turnover of the library's collection, which would be thousands of volumes per year across the entire inventory, and the complete emptying & dumping of the parts of the library the omnibigoted authoritarians responsible object to.
Pretending that the former is the same as the latter is convenient for the authoritarians concerned.
@futurebird John Boswell's Same Sex Unions in Pre-Modern Europe too. That would be around 30 years old by now, but still.
