Just thinking how I was a paying customer of Spotify from August 2015 till January 2024. That is a total of 102 months.

102 * 9,99€ per month -> about 1020€

I started using #bandcamp this year and initially pumped in some 100€ to get my recent favourite albums. (I also set up a wishlist that I can forward to family and friends when its my birthday 😂)

But thinking about how many albums I COULD have owned right now if I had not thrown € at #spotify lol...

Also I feel like it is a more healthy consumer lifestyle when you DON'T have every fucking thing at your fingertips. This way I get to make thoughtful decisions and can actually support bands that I enjoy.

anyways.
fuck spotify and consorts.

eternal glory to #jellyfin and also #finamp which is an android music client to consume the jellyfin library 🤓 (available on #fdroid)

@realestninja #Bandcamp really brought back the joy of discovering music myself - and not via algorithm.

@realestninja Same here! Well, nearly. Never jumped on the streaming bandwagon - other than short periods to discover new stuff.

For Finamp I'd recommend having a look at the recent beta versions from Github!
The version on f-droid is rather old and clunky, has some defects. The new 0.9x beta versions on Github massively add to the experience.

@realestninja Wow that's a lot of money, most of which went to the shareholders and large artists because of Spotify's broken financing model.

Have you heard of some of the other bandcamp-like websites recently? @mirlo, https://jam.coop and a couple others.
