detailing the different ways in which MediaWiki permalinks *arenโ€™t* permanent snapshots of how a page looked in the past

(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Permanent_link has some text about it but I feel like it could be fleshed out more)

Help:Permanent link - Wikipedia

@LucasWerkmeister I've had this idea of a wiki timeslicer tool for a long time, and had a discussion with @Wittylama in 2020 about it, so now I felt prompted to write that tool idea down: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:Ainali/Wiki_Timeslicer

MediaWiki
@ainali @LucasWerkmeister yes!
Also: The "links" aspect should take into account if it was 'red or blue' at the time, and, when clicked, take you to the same point in the history of THAT article.
This is why I called it 'wiki-strata' - it's like arcaeology where you dig down in time, but then 'sideways' across the same time. :-)

@Wittylama @ainali @LucasWerkmeister We have a bunch of tasks on the topic but it would be great to have a detailed list of requirements. (Is the Memento RfC or related material still a useful starting point?)
