PSA for UK folks (especially supportive parents of trans kids and/or folks using GenderGP

Susie Green has co-founded a new healthcare service for trans folk of all ages in the UK called Anne Health

It went live officially from the date of Trans Pride Brighton (20th July 2024), from what we've been told

Unlike GenderGP, which has sadly fired a lot of staff and replaced them with "AI" chatbots, Anne Health has commited to hiring qualified individuals who care and are knowledgeable about the best trans healthcare practices possible

Anne Health is planning to operating as a non-profit, and will take donations to help offer services to those who cannot afford the fees, so you can donate to them.

And they're open to shared care agreements with any trans friendly GPs willing to work with them.

Boosts very much welcomed  and please do share the word with family, friends, and loved ones

Edit:

Thank you to everyone who's boosted or commented at all. We totally agree that right now it's going to be too expensive for most trans people, but right now for supportive parents / guardians of trans youth, it's pretty much the only alternative to GenderGP

We absolutely know that for most people, this won't be for them. However, we just wanted to let you know it's out there, even if it's not something you or people you know can currently afford. And maybe, just maybe, if they can get some big donations from those with wealth who care about trans healthcare, they might be able to reduce costs or offer some stuff for free.

All we can really say is that it's one to watch

@SleepyCatten I'm going to be looking to start hormones later this year. The method isn't too important to me but I'd personally prefer a service like this over pure DIY.

What I can't tell from the website though is if this is offering a more traditional route (dysphoria diagnosis etc), or is more akin to GGP on an informed consent model. Any clues?

@hyphenw They're offering an informed consent model, but they're going to set up a system where folks can be referred to trusted UK "gender specialists" on the GRC list to get a formal diagnosis if the person wants to legally change their gender with HMRC, on their birth certificate, or on a marriage certificate.

They won't gatekeep HRT.

@SleepyCatten @hyphenw afaik you can already self-refer to anyone on the T493 list who isn't NHS-only, in which case no private entity would have the ability to help you skip ahead

also "open to shared care with your GP" is a bit like me saying im totally open to a 7-figure executive job with 6 work hours a week

apologies for the cynicism

@erisceleste No apologies necessary

The issue is always going to be the NHS GPs when it comes to shared care.

@hyphenw

@hyphenw @SleepyCatten if you can i would just recommend going diy. fewer and fewer gps are willing to do shared care, and the prices from anne healthcare are disgustingly exorbitant

@phenomenologie Yeah: the prices are truly high at the moment, but sadly it's what happens when you try to set up a private gender clinic with specialists who require a lot in salaries 😞 And yeah, for any adult who's comfortable with it, we'll happily walk them through the safest ways to do DIY or homebrew HRT.

However, and here's the real kicker, if any supportive parents / guardians were found to be giving their trans kid anything non-prescribed, it's likely that social services would get involved, take the kid away, and stop their treatment

@hyphenw If you would like more info on homebrew / DIY, especially in the UK, our DMs are always open

@SleepyCatten i love how the website says their care is 'accessible'..... not at these prices

@phenomenologie Alas, it's accessible in the fact that it exists without gatekeeping and the years (or decades) of waiting on the NHS.

Effectively there is zero medical support (or even social transition support) for any trans person under 18, and the NHS is heading in a direction that's basically conversion therapy under another name ("explorartory therapy").

We know that they want to start fundraising, so that they can reduce the prices or even remove them entirely for those who cannot comfortably afford to pay.
