Tracy Chou👩🏻💻we'd love to build @blockpartyapp_ for fediverse and threads someday! our criteria are 1) consumer demand and 2) technical feasibility. factoring into 1) demand are number of users, the prevalence and intensity of problems that people are dealing with, and inadequacy of other available solutions. on 2) technical feasibility, mainly this is about having API access
we're keeping an eye on the @threads API -- so far it's limited to mostly publisher functionality and doesn't have the capabilities around safety that we need (e.g. block, mute, report), nor the ability to pull enough supplementary info to be smart about those actions (e.g. following/follower relationships, basic user data like signup date), but looking forward to the continued rollout of API functionality!
Very glad to hear and that seems wise way to look at it. At least for Mastodon, I'd think the API would get you what you need today, but hovering at 1 MM or so active users and 12 MM registered users, I could see wanting to wait till that was more like 2X or so bigger. But I would say, the demand is there. We can block servers and users there - but no good solution for sharing known sets of bad actor accounts.
