Okay, we’re here with @mmccue of @flipboard and @exhaustedfemalefounder of @blockpartyapp_ 🫶 Welcome! In simple terms, what is the fediverse? Why explore it?
The fediverse is an open social network formed by people using compatible apps like Threads, Flipboard, Mastodon and others. People can follow and communicate with each other across these apps giving you the power to discover and follow more people and posts beyond what any one app provides on its own.
A lot of people recently have been confusing the Fediverse with the reason their posts are showing up on other Meta platforms, like Facebook and Instagram. What can the @threads team do to better explain the difference to their users?
the fediverse refers to a "universe" of social networking services that can all communicate with each other over a standard protocol.

sort of like how email is an open protocol and you can sign up with an email provider of your choice (e.g. gmail, protonmail) and send email to anyone else, instead of everyone being stuck within a single provider and unable to communicate with people on a different provider. now for social networking, too! eg, someone on mastodon can see posts from @threads
