Today doesn't suck.

After two years of retirement, I'm finally starting to see signs that I'm recovering from the burnout I suffered during my last five years of working.

Crazy what we're willing to trade for a paycheck, eh?

Strange how we take work stress for granted. I was sacked in 2006, aged 54. Not ideal but I put together some part time work with freelance techie writing and found I was happier and more relaxed than ever.

Seems like the entire equation is set up to induce nothing but stress (almost as stressful to keep a job as it is to lose one.)

It's good that you managed a way to survive outside of it.
