Jimmy Carter says he's hoping to vote for Kamala Harris as 100th birthday approaches

Former President Jimmy Carter, 99, tells family he's holding on to vote for Kamala Harris for president

@augieray Well they all say "If you're an ally, don't vote for anyone that hurts your friends" so as someone with Palestinian friends, who could I vote for?
@thriveth Vote for the party that doesn't want to green light Israel using nuclear weapons in Gaza. Or, read Project 2025 and decide if that's what you want to unleash on the world. https://newrepublic.com/post/181580/republican-congressman-greg-murphy-nuke-gaza
Republican Congressman Joins Lindsey Graham in Calls to Nuke Gaza

“Nuke Gaza” is quickly becoming the new normal for the GOP.

@augieray "Yes, she commits genocide, but you should vote for her because the alternative is worse" is not a very convincing sell.

@thriveth Trump will destroy democracy, glass Muslim nations, ban abortion, weaponize the Justice system, and harm millions. Is that a better sell?

There is no comparison between the two. You can be disappointed about the Biden administration's stance on Gaza--I am, too!--but I'm also not a giant moron unable to see the Milky Way-sized gap between the two candidates or the tremendous danger to the world posed by Trump.

I don't know why any sane person needs to be "sold" in the first place.

@augieray I didn't say Trump was a better sell. My whole point was that none of the candidates are acceptable. Voting for degrees of genocide is not a real choice.

@thriveth News flash: There are issues other than Israel/Gaza. You can vote for the world, or you can abstain and see how much damage another Trump administration can do.

Seriously, do you not understand the stakes?

I won't engage further, since I only engage with people who see the big picture and not people whose narrow world view leads them to think it doesn't matter who wins in November.

@augieray And maybe you don't see any need to be "sold" in the first place, but here's the thing: In a representative democracy, politicians need to give voters something to vote for, or they don't get people's vote. That is literally the only way voters have of wielding their ostensibly supreme power. And "somewhat less terrible fascism" is not a real choice.
