so, I have a problematic fave Roman emperor: Caracalla. I like him because he's considered terrible but probably just hated his job. he was a manly man and a real soldier and hated everything that wasn't fighting or horses. he was born in Lyon to an African dad and an Arab mom. he hated his brother so badly that he had him murdered and wiped from the records, physically chiseling off his face in frescos. his mom did most of the political work for him because he just wanted to fight stuff.

anyway he has a very recognizable face. here's a picture of a bust of Caracalla that I took in Naples. here's the thing: you can see this guy at every Turkish bakery in town. I know this guy.

and here's a picture from the upcoming Gladiator II movie. they have, of course, cast him as a pasty white dude.

they're gonna do my boy so, so bad.
my wife, a classicist and historian: you can tell when it's julian-claudian emperor whats-his-face because he has big ears!
me, no training whatsoever: this is Caracalla. he just looks like that.
"I know who this guy looks like: Ed Sheeran!" what are you even thinking

@izzy what the helllll
