I'm on an email list with a bunch of connected Dems who never fail to impress, and we're all discussing #Trump's disastrous #NABJ appearance.

One of the Black contributors, an author and activist who's been published in major news outlets covering racial issues, civil rights, health care reform, and the economy, coined this, and I told him I'm stealing it:

"Unmitigated caucasity."

#UnmitigatedCaucasity

@GottaLaff unmitigated may be new as part of this phrase but just want people to know if they don't that caucasity itself isn't

https://www.dictionary.com/e/slang/caucacity/

caucacity

This term calls out the boldness of white privilege and has been used to describe some truly outrageous behavior.

Dictionary.com
@steveportigal I wasn't saying he made up "caucasity." I said he coined the phrase.
@GottaLaff I know but everyone that follows you might not
@GottaLaff OMG If The dictionary out whoever doesn’t coin that as the word of the year it will be a travesty
@GottaLaff
I'm gonna say this. And am scared, sad and angry to say so. Trump wants to "Make America White Again".
@heatherlynn8571 We've all been saying that for years.

@heatherlynn8571 @GottaLaff

I think it's more to do with hate. If you can find a common enemy, "other" and dehumanize them, you'll get people's votes.

Eg, hate people who support a woman's right to determine her own body.

Eg. hate people who want to put safeguards in place for owning weapons.

Obviously, there are other ways to get votes, based on sound policy, buy hate is a strong emotion.

@pete @GottaLaff
I'm NOT okay with him. P.S. Love your pic

@GottaLaff

And it was so #weird with the flags behind trump—and only trump.
Was it trying to show the journalists are not patriots?
OR does he carry his own bodily-fluid stained flags around to his appearances in case he gets the urge to molest them. #weird

@bronakins @GottaLaff also when he was talking his bs about inflation the two foods he mentioned people would be able to buy again were ham and bacon. Both pork products that neither Jews nor Muslims eat.
@urbanfoxe @bronakins @GottaLaff I caught that. Why not Steak and Vodka, two failed business ventures!! It was insulting as if the audience members are not consumers of variety of foods. Bacon and sandwich???

@GottaLaff

<Mortal Kombat music>

"Nordic Him!"

"CAUCASITY!"

@GottaLaff Now, if I can only spell #UnmitigatedCaucasity
@Ralph058 You did it!
@GottaLaff I copied it. I want to be able to type #UnmitigatedCaucasity in response to a random toot when it is appropriate.
@Ralph058 Oh well. You'll find a way, lol
@GottaLaff I'm hoping to get it out there enough that it will autocomplete.

@GottaLaff I'm not sure it was a disaster at all. He wanted to 1. grab headlines for fueling them-vs-us racial conflict, 2. excite his base by showing how brazenly racist he's willing to be (à la asking April Ryan if the Congressional Black Caucus were friends of hers—deliberately open racism), 3. make it look like PoC with any power or influence will use it to abuse white men, 4. portray journalists as fake.

He may have accomplished exactly what he intended.

@junecasagrande @GottaLaff

Would add that what he succeeded in doing was to get the corporate media to oblige by framing his racist remarks as a 'challenge for Harris.' This has the effect of normalizing his appalling overt racism and laying the groundwork for more overt racism as a campaign tactic.

@mastodonmigration @GottaLaff Wow. I didn't even think of that. Good point.
Mastodon Migration (@[email protected])

No corporate media, you don't get to normalize appalling overt racism as a campaign strategy. This morning the NY Times and Washington Post continue analysis of Trump's racist remarks in the context of 'the challenge they pose to Harris.' It's like opining that a wife beater makes domestic bliss complicated. Carol Cadwalladr told us it was coming. Racism and misogyny at an unprecedented scale, fueled by corporate media, and it is here. https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/article/2024/jul/27/misogyny-emergency-huge-outpouring-kamala-harris-us-electionction @[email protected]

@mastodonmigration @junecasagrande I saw way worse headlines than that. Someone posted a grab of them on the hellsite.

@junecasagrande His base isn't growing.

Independent/swing voters saw this.

The headlines were terrible for him.

Yes, it was a disaster.

@GottaLaff You could be right. But if his strategy is to mobilize his base — perhaps to get them to the polls, perhaps just to get them up in arms and ready for violence next Jan. 6 — this would be the way to do it.

Maddow had interesting observation about him saying at events that he doesn't want votes, doesn't need them. Possible interpretation: he's counting on hell-raising "patriots" plus 70+ election deniers in swing-state election roles to render votes (including Black votes) moot.

@junecasagrande @GottaLaff Maddow did nobody a favor on that.
You will note that the whole conversation of his saying "you will never have to vote again" was begging them to get out and vote.
His cheat would only work in a squeaky close election.
Harris is becoming a movement...and it looks like Trump's movement will be vacated into the cesspool from which it rose.

@Ralph058 @junecasagrande Maddow did nobody a favor? She was expressing alarm at a very real scenario. https://mastodon.social/@GottaLaff/112888864637693084

I'm with June on this.

@junecasagrande @GottaLaff Why Jan 6, it will start on Nov 5 until someone is declared to be rightfully elected. He is counting on Supreme Court.
@Mallulady @GottaLaff You're right. It'll start way before Jan. 6.
@GottaLaff @junecasagrande There are pundits that are saying that Vance was an attempt to shore up his base. The young white males, in particular, have been abandoning it. The problem is, his choice turns even more of them off.
@junecasagrande @GottaLaff Not a disaster for his base but for anyone outside that tiny bubble who was even on the fence I’m pretty sure it was a disaster.
@Pineywoozle My point exactly. GMTA @junecasagrande
@GottaLaff @junecasagrande Very sweet! but you do know you’ve just increased the likelihood of a meme in your future. 😜 🤣

@junecasagrande @GottaLaff
I agree

I think Trump's weirdly hostile "outreach" to Black voters is really a warped way to draw in more Whites.

We *know* that Trump uses division to force people to choose sides. His outreach allows White who dislike him to say "He's trying to reach out, but they just keep attacking him. I may not like him, but Dems are worse.

We need to emphasize his "racism" less and his "weirdness", " meanness" and "hate" more. His NABJ was awful because he was MEAN!

@TCatInReality @junecasagrande @GottaLaff I would add whiny and weak to that, as well. Everyone is so mean to him, it's so unfair. He never shuts up about it.

I would point out that their "strongman" is a petulant man-baby at every opportunity.

@OldFartPhil @junecasagrande @GottaLaff
Authoritarian expert, Ruth Ben Ghiat, says victimhood is a key part of the strongman playbook.
@TCatInReality @OldFartPhil @GottaLaff So does "Anatomy of Fascism" author Robert Paxton, cited here in Garry Kasparov's "Winter Is Coming." And he explains how it works: If your group is a "victim," any response — anything at all — is justified, including authoritarianism and even holocausts.
@GottaLaff Perfect!! I rarely watch him because I get nauseous. But yesterday I couldn't stop watching his real time Demise with Black Voters. I was laughing hysterically 😂. He was literally digging his grave
@otownKim @GottaLaff He was angry and couldn’t care. He thinks he has the election won. SCOTUS won’t let him down this time. We have to wait and see.
@GottaLaff @Snowshadow
😆 😆 Glad you two learned the word "caucasity" today. It has been in use for many many years on Black Twitter. Please use sparingly so that you don't inadvertently use it incorrectly.
@GottaLaff
Excellent phrase 👏
