Please note the easiest way to avoid this all is by not using highly invasive recommender algorithms.

Become neutral conduits that deliver what the user requested.

BTW, the EU is also highly interested how harmful all these algorithms are, so you won't get away from this pandora box that “optimizing for maximum eye time on most valuable ads” has got you into.

I check in there once a week to see what’s going on but the aggressive algorithm sorting is just depressing

@clive @mmasnick @charliejane Maybe it's naive of me to suggest, but if regulations to control the negative consequences of your business model make your business model untenable then the negative consequences *are* your business model.

Obviously, there's the danger of over-regulation stifling legitimate business, but I think the suggestion that Facebook/Twitter/YouTube/et.al. are over-regulated is outrageous.
