Ghost Pipes [Monotropa uniflora]

@danmccullough it’s been so dry here in Ohio that I haven’t seen enough ghost pipe to harvest this summer (I make a tincture from it that is a great pain reliever). Normally my woods are full of it.

@bbenz If you don’t mind me asking, what type of pain do you treat it with? Is it like joint type pain or a topical type pain? I haven’t heard it used in that way.

We’ve been mostly fortunate here with rain. Lots of heat followed by just enough rain to keep things alive and hearty. But still too close for comfort.

@danmccullough Initially I used it for knee pain. Still do that, but I find it works for almost anything that I'd use aspirin or other pain relievers for. There's some talk that it could be an alternative to opioids. But the science still is sketchy and most of the reports on it are anecdotal. It does have a long history among native peoples. Plus, it makes a really cool looking, purple-blue tincture.
@bbenz Yes, that IS a cool color! Thanks!
@danmccullough What a wonderful coincidence: Just started reading the chapter dealing with 'mycohets' in Merlin Sheldrake's 'Entangled Life' (https://www.merlinsheldrake.com/entangled-life).
Entangled Life: How Fungi Make Our Worlds, Change Our Minds, and Shape Our Futures — Merlin Sheldrake
