Seeing some #fieldtelephone stuff here again, which brought up an older thought again

Are there any DIY field telephone kits/PCBs/schematics out there, possibly open source hardware?

I know there are schematics for most field telephones out there but it doesn’t seem like parts would be easily available. I was thinking of something like a PCB you could just plug a POTS phone receiver into. Anyone ever seen something like that? Or do I have to keep it on my project list 😅

started writing down some thoughts over here: https://notes.tiefpunkt.com/hacking/field-telephones.html

Might need to do some prototyping next I guess.

Field Telephones

Building your own field telephone stuff

tiefpunkt’s notes

Did my first try at building the ringer circuit. Turns out my knowledge of analog electronics is even worse than I thought 😅

Initially I thought about building this thing with as little “advanced” components as possible, but maybe this is not the best way to start off. So back to the drawing board I guess.

Progress progress progress!

Built the 555 version of this thing, and tada, we have a proper signal one can work with. I was missing an inductor, which would’ve made this more of a sinewave. Next step will be to get that missing part as well as a transformer to get the voltage up to whatever we need to make a phone ring. Then get a real field telephone to test it out

Also ordered some RJ10 adapter PCBs to start building a phone receiver amplifier
