have a stock-based android launcher? try this:

  • long-press an app
  • immediately after starting the long-press, use another finger to open a folder
  • when the long-press has completed, drag the app into the folder
  • watch the launcher crash

as far as i know, this even works in the latest version of pixel launcher

you can even make folders invisible by trying to move folders into other folders (and then, you can move apps into those invisible folders, which makes them disappear)

@sk for me, the folder i try to move actually just completely disappears. it's gone

edit: wait

oh god no it only reappears when you move other stuff on top. wild

@kescher (until you restart/crash the launcher, right?) maybe, by trying to drag the app into the invisible folder, you ended up moving the invisible folder somewhere else?
@sk no, the folder is just not even interactable anymore UNTIL i drag something it it :D

@sk i also managed to make empty folders once. tapping them made them disappear.

same with folders with only one app, opening them would make them realize "wait i am just one icon"

@sk lmao this works really well
@kescher i know!! has been for years and works everywhere :') (actually tried this a few months ago on a brand new pixel phone)
@sk video of this exact process happening.
@sk oh the oneplus launcher is doing some Weird things if i do that. the folder with only one entry that just does Nothing when clicked is brilliant
@sk oh that's actually handy for quickly restarting the launcher, when it becomes broken for other reasons 🙈
@sk crashes also on LineageOS 13 Trebuchet Launcher :)
@basti haha yeah i assumed; i've known the bug for a while and i know it to exist at least on my current lineageos 14 installation's trebuchet, on pixel launcher, on lawnchair.. and i'm sure there's way more
