Okay it's Sunday morning. Let's get our #WhatFourGames going.

This week I'm interested to know which franchises that have been laying dormant for a while are most in need of new entry.

As ever. Don't forget to include the #WhatFourGames and I'll boost responses. Let's see if we can't cultivate a little conversation here. Oh and have a lovely Sunday.

I'll kick us off with my four.

#CaptainToad
#HitmanGo
#ZombiU
#Rayman

#Boost #Videogames

Aight more info:

Captain Toad. I fucking love this game. The Switch version arrived a few months after I became a dad and it was the absolutely perfect respite from my suddenly incredibly stressful life.

Hitman/Lara Croft/DeusEx Go. Little turned based strategy games built around their respective games aesthetic and genre and design ethos. Super cool idea that unfortunately got canned when Square Enix decided to save £££

ZombiU. I don't think ZombiU is a fantastic game, but it was the one WiiU launch title that grabbed me the most and it's definitely worth a sequel; think Souls meets Resident Evil and you're half way there.

Rayman Origins/Legends. The first entry in the series did pretty well, and the second was a critical success. Unfortunately I don't believe it did well enough financially to justify a third entry, and I think the videogame space is worse for it.

@danielholt I thought ZombiU was a great game that genuinely made me jump and was a little scary to play. (Yes I'm a wimp with zombies 😆).

I loved the way you were still vulnerable while rummaging around in your backpack on the gamepad and could watch the TV for your surroundings.

I loved the post apocalyptic London.

The only problem I had was that I got stuck on a major section that I could never get past.

@UKFilmNerd did you play on the WiiU or the other consoles? They re-released it on the big boi consoles (without the dual screen stuff obviously).

@danielholt I bought a cheap copy for my WiiU.I thought the gamepad integration was nicely done. The selfies with the gamepad camera and zombie filter were really nasty and the family hated me creating them. 😄

There's a bit where you're captured, stripped of weapons, stuck in an arena and have to fight several zombies with almost nothing.

Really pissed me off as I could never survive which was a shame as I really enjoyed everything up to that point.

@danielholt you got to to play games a few months after becoming a dad..? 😅

@wiredfire

The first month or two was a bit rough, but once she started sleeping better I'd usually find an hour or two before work (I worked nights).

I've still not cracked the 'i can play when the kids are awake' nut however, and it's been six years.

@danielholt I can usually scrape 15 minutes at lunch the couple of days a week I’m in the office but that’s about it ha 😅 Little one is 15 months and we’ve had our challenges (as do all parents), and I tend to find once they're in bed (going through a phase of bed time being tricky) mum is exhausted & then there’s the washing up and everything else to sort..

Well worth it for the golden moments of course ☺️ But I am hoping we can figure just a scrap more time to still be ourselves haha

@danielholt I did enjoy Hitman Go, but perhaps the mobile scene is a bit too focused on free games these days? I'd happily play (and pay for) a PC version though, if they were to make more.

@countstex did you give Lara Croft or Deus Ex a go?

I think you're probably right. It's a real shame though because those games were so suited to the touchscreen, with the idea that you were moving physical pieces around a board that I feel like something was lost when playing on a KB/Mouse or Controller.

But yeah. I can't imagine the market is begging for a £7 touchscreen focused turn based strategy game in 2024.

@danielholt I never did no, should probably check them out on the tablet at some point, if you can still get them!

@danielholt #WhatFourGames franchises that have been laying dormant for a while are most in need of new entry:

#DevilSurvivor the best DS game, a turn based strategy series with great stories, meaningful decisions, and deep gameplay. they only ever made two of them and they're locked to the DS/3DS. c'mon ATLUS

#Castlevania do I really need to say anything more about this. Konami gonna Konami

#Tenchu I need more Ninja action, last game was 2008

#Wipeout just do it, doooo ittttt

@COMPU73E honestly I kinda feel like the whole Ninja thing is a blind spot for developers. There's been a few games here and there but for the most part it's not exactly a tapped out style of game.

I'd take a new Ninja Gaiden too...with a more Soulsy aspect maybe.

@danielholt FROM even made Tenchu games, and are the current rights holders iirc.

I'd love a return to the Hitman style of game; here's a big level, you have all these cool Ninja abilities, there's the target. GO

@COMPU73E similar to early AC games but with more of a focus on staying in the shadows could be cool...

But with Souls 🤣

@danielholt For my #WhatFourGames I'm going to go with a Nintendo theme!

#WaveRace
#WarioLand
#StarFox
#GoldenSun

Out of all of those, I'd love to have a new Wave Race entry, one more like the N64 version than Blue Storm on the GameCube.

@SimonSays

I know it's super uncool but if Nintendo could make modern take on Starfox Adventures I'd snap their hands off.

One of the first games I ever remember spending time to finish properly. Give me more of that please.

@danielholt Great shout. I think that game gets a lot of underserved hate, I had a wonderful time with it even when I replayed it a few years back.
@danielholt My #WhatFourGames although I could choose a lot more just from #ZXSpectrum era !
@iSabreman @danielholt A lovely choice, some real memories there. I can associate so clear memories of my life relating to those games.

@danielholt

Which franchises that have been laying dormant for a while are most in need of new entry?

#WhatFourGames

The first three for me were easy, the last was harder (it would have been Elder Scrolls if VI wasn't already announced).

Viva Pinata, Black & White, Majesty, and Eador.

@Krikket oh man, sign me up for another Viva Pinata game.

Find a way to make it a Animal Crossing crossover and I'll give them all the money. All of it.
