CrowdStrike offers a $10 apology gift card to say sorry for outage | TechCrunch

Several people who received the CrowdStrike offer found that the gift card didn't work, while others got an error saying the voucher had been canceled.

TechCrunch
@HonkHase well in all fairness, they could not really repay the damage caused anyways, so the gesture is kinda unexpected.
@HonkHase „When TechCrunch checked the voucher, the Uber Eats page provided an error message that said the gift card “has been canceled by the issuing party and is no longer valid.”“
@HonkHase adding insult to injury...
@HonkHase immerhin mehr als für das medizinische Personal. Für die wurde in der Pandemie nur geklatscht.

@HonkHase
Der Umtausch in Bargeld ist vermutlich ausgeschlossen?

@HonkHase >Henry wrote on Linkedin that “we failed you, and for that I’m deeply sorry.”< just reminds me of https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=15HTd4Um1m4 - we're ... sorry!

@HonkHase: Per affected host? Or just per affected customer?
@HonkHase Ist doch prima, und obendrauf noch die Lektion an alle, wie man Updates nicht ausrollt.

@HonkHase ok... you are running an infrastructure that is so critical that you think you need to use such a tool but you don't have any backup or fallback solution to be able to go on working within 1 hour max?
@DoKo
what would your fallback solution look like for a company with 500+ desktop PCs not working?
@nichtsicher that depends what this company is doing. It is a not a question of how to replace a specific computer, it is a question of the whole system behind. Riscmanagement and so on. E.g. if you are a hospital and have to manage data and timeplans for patients a fallback for a non working database server would be a second server and / or a second, syncronized database server / system. So a fallback solution would be very individual but should be planed if the structure is really a critical.
@nichtsicher at the end it is the same discussion of risc management as with backups of data, but more generalized on system level. What i described is nothing new and should already described by the companies interal process documents
