Journalists:
Stop using weak and cravenly worded phrases re whether “the country is ready to elect an African American woman.” Be direct and unapologetic with the question:

👉 Is America STILL a home to so many racists, bigots, and misogynists that a highly educated, experienced, and qualified candidate like Vice Pres. Kamala Harris can’t get elected when running for POTUS against a 78-year-old White rapist, fraudster, and insurrectionist?
#Kamala4POTUS #KamalaHarris #DonaldTrump #Election2024

Here it is again: that cowardly approach to blatant racism and sexism. It aired on MSNBC’s The 11th Hour, on July 23, 2024.
@BPStuart July 25th?
@ArmyGirl
D’oh! I don’t know how or why I did that. Thank you for drawing attention to it.
@BPStuart 😅 glad I wasn't losing it
@BPStuart The journalists are wording it this way on purpose. Who do they work for?
@Yup_Its_Holly
It was worded that way on MSNBC. I can’t recall if it was Katy Tur or Jen Psaki who said it. It was within the past hour. To make sure my quote was accurate, I rewound it three times.
@BPStuart Ah. My bad. It’s usually the NYT or WaPo. You’re absolutely right. They should know better and need to smarten up.
@Yup_Its_Holly
I’ve heard many journalists, both in print or television, use that phrasing or close to it, regularly. It really ticks me off. What I really found disgusting was that all of the major media would speak of Trump using distortions, fabrications, inaccuracies, etc., etc. It took years before those jackasses would accuse Trump of doing exactly what he had been doing: lying, telling lies faster than they could be fact, checked. That helped trump significantly.
@BPStuart For some reason the press behaves like no matter who they are, Dems need to justify their existence and worthiness while the GOP can be as horrific as they want without apology. It is beyond frustrating and I’m not even an American. The Dems need to kick this shit to the curb and push back hard.

@Yup_Its_Holly

I found it, Holly. It was Jen Psaki who was asking the question during an interview with Senator Cory Booker. The question was asked at the 7:43 PM Central Time mark. I wanted to go back and check, because I was channel, surfing a bit, and started to doubt my memory.

@BPStuart Boo. ☹️ I thought Psaki was better than that.
@Yup_Its_Holly
Holly, I must be sure not to be remiss. Leading into that phrasing (which I detest), Jen Psaki DID cite society’s racism and sexism. It’s the pallid wording of people being “ready” which sickens me. The matter has nothing to do with readiness, and everything to do with respecting one another and not deeming different groups as lessers or others because they don’t look like America’s hateful hoi polloi thinks they should look.
@BPStuart That’s fair.

@Yup_Its_Holly

I had a bit of whiskey.🥃
I’ve got to be sure that I don’t flake and failed to give credit where credits due while I’m dealing out my blunt commentary. 😉

I appreciate MSNBC because it’s such a reliable foil to the lies and shit that airs on Fox and other such propaganda trash troughs.

@BPStuart

They should be asking,

is the US willing to elect someone who says they intend to be a dictator?

@BPStuart Our VP is NOT African American…she is Indian American and Jamaican American
@Computeforloot
I’ve nearly given up on trying to address it. It’s amazing how many people think that anyone who’s got black skin is African.
@BPStuart The reason I’ve never cared for the term “African American.” So if you’re from Haiti or Cuba you’re “Other?” @Computeforloot
@BPStuart @Computeforloot
It'S even not more "black" than average Greeks
@Computeforloot @BPStuart OK this convo is making more sense now. I watched a Jamaican gentleman this morning speaking about this and how his ancestors were also brought to Jamaica by white men.
@BPStuart It's long past time
@PeasLuvnJustice @BPStuart “Convicted felon“ and “adjudicated rapist” are among the many other things missing from this… résumé.
@BPStuart if you think people voting for Trump are doing so because they endorse racism, bigotry and misogyny, then we are back to square one. Straw man fallacy.

@BPStuart

".. rapist, fraudster, and insurrectionist.... " and Convicted Felon!

@BPStuart As with Obama in 2008, the depredations of the Republican party are a political gift that will help American voters overcome their biases and the systemic racism and misogyny in our society to vote for the better candidate regardless of race or gender.

This is a generational fight that goes back to the wrongly decided Bush v Gore in 2000.

It's a fight about how far America's privileged minority could bend/break the rules so they wouldn't have to share power with "those people."

@BPStuart Unfortunately, yes, America _is_ still thst racist and sexist.
@BPStuart I always thought Hillary Clinton didn't win because of all the Clinton baggage, not because she's a woman. I'm pretty optimistic about Harris' chances. There is a segment of society still deeply racist and misogynistic (we all know who they are) but I think a majority don't care about that and are so sick of Trump they will vote for her.
@BPStuart Why is no one asking if the country is ready to elect a convicted felon?
@BPStuart Reminds me of George Orwell’s “Politics and the English Language “. When we allow language to become unmoored from truth, our politics drift toward authoritarianism

@Edgar

Orwell was so spot-on about pretty much everything. It’s mind-boggling.
