Pedestriansfirst@royaards If you’ve not seen this already the judge Christopher Hehir who jails peaceful protesters for 5 years gave a sexual molester 1 year. And pro brexiteers engaged in violent assault and affray? He let them off.

Judge Hehir gave him a suspended sentence in order "to bring this sad and sorry tale to its end with a final act of mercy". The sentence was increased to 11 months on appeal.
@robinadams @royaards No. I was thinking of Mukhtar Jama who kissed and fondled the breast of a vulnerable woman in a hospital. He had previous form for such offences. Hehir recognised he was a danger to women but gave him only a 1 year sentence. You seem to have found a similar case in which offences against women get a lenient sentence from Judge Hehir.

They are probably only going to spend half the time in prison, unless they act like fools once paroled. They had planned to shut down all of London by blocking M25 at multiple points, which would have jammed up all the major roads. A journalist recorded their Zoom and turned them in. All were out on bail, and had many previous convictions. If people won't stop, what else can you do but lock them up?
@pedestrians1st @royaards You can also die in an ambulance because some nutcase deliberately jammed all the roads.
There are ok and not-ok ways to protest.
There will always be people with a beef against how society is being run. If they all respond by shutting down the normal functions of society until their demands are met, then society will never function. Because there will always be people with a beef.
Rosa Parks did not stop the bus! She just sat down like any other passenger.
@royaards @mike805 Do you understand that in a few short years if we carry on burning fossil fuels our crops will fail, we will suffer devastating extremes of weather, major cities will flood and there’s a strong possibility humanity and many other species will die. As I say don’t be a fool give your support to those who are trying to do something about it.
@pedestrians1st @royaards There is a range of opinions on just how bad this all is. Even if the extreme doom case is true, causing traffic jams does not fix the problem.
I'm in favor of those who are building practical solutions. Solar works now, although the UK isn't the best place for it. Biodiesel generally does not, at least not if it is done by industrial agriculture.
JSO and others like them, are just pissing people off.
@mike805 @royaards There is no range of opinions among serious climate scientists. If we carry on burning fossil fuels we are heading for catastrophe. Billions if not all of us will die. Tinkering with practical solutions while we carry on emitting the carbon is obviously not going to help. People will be much more pissed off when they starve, drown or fry. We are not going to save ourselves by not taking extreme action.
