@gintoxicating That's just a transflective #eInk screen with memory...

  • I mean, shure it does work well...

I just wished it would just work with like a #USB #Keyboard and save txt files to a #microSD and have actual screen space - make it A4 or at least fit 80x25 characters!

@kkarhan it reminds me of my alphasmart pro which is cool but the attached keyboard is unusably bad lol

@gintoxicating that's one of these shitty type devices that I gladly avoided...

YIKES!

@kkarhan it’s not terrible except for so many things about it, uh

I like the idea of single purpose things like this to keep me on task. And on the nice side the batteries are user replaceable (or this thing would have stopped working a decade ago or longer)

@gintoxicating @kkarhan I'd rather pick something based on eink

@nestor @kkarhan I thought so too but the more I think about it this makes more sense for a WRITING device where latency matters a lot more over reading

I have a lot of eink devices and typing on them isn’t my favorite because my brain registers that small delay and gets annoyed at it haha

Still not a huge deal but if the display looks good enough I’d prefer better latency over an improved display I think

But the lcd one can’t look like a calculator display lol

@gintoxicating @nestor Granted, there are #eInk screens that can do like 5-10 fps...

It's just that classic LCDs have economies of scale that makes them cheap...

Cuz only few people will pay €489 - €700 for an #eInk screen with HDMI input...

E-Ink for Productivity: An Introduction

YouTube

@kkarhan @gintoxicating Yep, it is all about the different ways to refresh the screen, a trade between speed and artifacts.

However, if the cost of this small screen is competitive against an eink reader with android (to pick a writing app and use tan external keyboard) it could make sense.

I say this with full respect for your choice and a bit of curiosity about your feels once you get it ;-) , it is not just the thing that i would like to use for writing

@nestor @gintoxicating the problem is that like a real, ergonomic monitor running #eInk is just extremely expensive at ~ €1,5k that one may just be better off buying an old #IdeaPad S100 and doing the #PixelQi #Display #Mod to it instead as a compromise...

@kkarhan @gintoxicating Is pixelqi still a thing?
@nestor @gintoxicating AFAICT #3B bought up #PixelQi and thus made availabiliy even worse...
