One of my favorite parts of the particular brand of Conservative Fundamentalism I grew up in, is that they tell you all you need to do is be saved, and then your life will be so much better, and you won't have to worry about the Afterlife, and God, THE GOD, is on your side. Then later they tell you, By the way, if you aren't really feeling so much better and fulfilled, it's because you need to get Filled With The Holy Spirit and Sanctified. If you ask how this is different than just being saved, no one can give you a real answer, but will vaguely point you to somewhere in Acts. You'll ask how you know you've been Holy Spirited, and they'll tell you, you just know or maybe even that you'll speak in Tongues, which really means that you can speak in languages you don't know, but most churches have switched it to some gibberish that is "Angel Language". If you manage all this, and you still don't feel right, it's probably because you don't really love God enough, and you're backsliding. It's always your fault if it's not working, so you fake it, and everyone else is faking it too.

@RickiTarr I love that argument when I tell them I can already speak Enochian....

They go blank, until I note that they are obviously not saved if they do not know the language of angels....

@Thebratdragon @RickiTarr Ah yes, that noted Christian theologian John Dee…🙂
@Thebratdragon @RickiTarr except that’s not the language of the Angels Exactly.
It’s the language of the Angels Of The Apocalypse.
Custom made for ending the world .

@MishaVanMollusq @RickiTarr well mickey and raph speak it, so good enough for me.

The 4 horsemen however speak it with geordie accents, and the dukes of hell have scouse accents.

@Thebratdragon @RickiTarr you’ve been buying mushroom gummies haven’t you ?
@MishaVanMollusq @RickiTarr don't need to, just drink Lucis latest cocktail!

@RickiTarr

...this cycle is controled by the alter call,🎶 ' just as I am without one plea...' and the deal is sealed with,🎶 'I surrender all.'😉

@RickiTarr The emperor’s new clothes mind-hack. “Group based identity” style minds are great for organizing large groups of people, but terrible for how you can maliciously organize large groups of people.

@RickiTarr

Having visited many other churches over the years, it’s also fascinating to see shared phrases used when speaking in tongues that are regional. Church A has a lot of “Shundai!” In theirs, while Church B uses a lot more “Yah-do!”

I remember traveling to Canada for the Toronto Blessing in the mid 90’s and feeling devastated that all of these people were being slain in the spirit, roaring like lions, and all of the other things and I couldn’t feel anything.

@ginguin RIGHT! I remember being told I was over thinking it

@RickiTarr
I wish i could SHARE the feeling of JOY and RELIEF you get when you realize that it's ok to fake it because everybody else is faking it too

@Hedgewizard Yeah I tried I really did, but I couldn't get over how fake it felt
@RickiTarr Fundamentalism is awful 😩
@RickiTarr
I love the word "glossolalia".
But being raised a catholic we didn't go anywhere near it other than it was a thing that happened in the bible.
Being a born again atheist (sic) I consider it all nonsense on stilts.
@RickiTarr thank Barbelo I’m a Gnostic.
We have working methods

@RickiTarr my observation: "you're not enough" versus "you're made in god's perfect image"

In my catholic upbringing we were told we had to constantly strive to that perfection & the ultimate was to give up all worldy goods & serve god through charitable works. (e.g.: Don't marry, don't have a family, don't hold a job for pay...) So when I see a catholic who is chasing the almighty dollar I think "Wow do they have a ways to go..."

But it's so hypocritical because they want large families.

@RickiTarr
After two years at a private Lutheran school, being dyslexic and not being able to recite the ten commandments and was repeatedly punished 😫, remember this was second grade, I became an atheist, then became a happy child😄
@RickiTarr this is how all cults work. If you succeed and feel fulfilled it is because of (leader/god...) if you feel bad, it is your own fault for not trusting or working for (leader/god). Its a way of removing individuals' ownership of their internal life and installing a censor in the believers own mind.
@RickiTarr
So glad I got outta church entirely before it went that far, even went to Xtian camp a few times but I was young
