Even though there are one or two remaining #accessibility bugs, I decided to reinstall Castro, the best podcast player I’ve ever used when it was working well but which lost its way for a while. At one point it was facing extinction.
I congratulate the new owners of @castropodcasts who had a plan and are sticking to it. Even when Castro was working relatively well, there were issues with podcast discovery and timely delivery of episodes. They’ve been working on those infrastructural things first, because all the features in the world don’t mean a damn if you can’t get the content you want consistently. In this regard, Castro is rock-solid now and it is better than it’s ever been.
The biggest #accessibility bug that remains in my opinion is that Castro no longer speaks the source of an episode when you’re in the Inbox. I worked extensively with the previous developers to get this order optimal, and I hope this can be addressed soon.
Nevertheless, I am reminded all over again of how Castro allows me to triage the extensive podcast content I consume far far more efficiently than with any other podcast app out there. Coming back to Castro feels like coming home after a long absence.
Well done to the new owners for their methodical approach. I’ve gladly reactivated my Castro Plus and hope the app has a long, bright future.
@JonathanMosen @castropodcasts Funny you mention the podcast source in the inbox tab. I sent an email about this feature to the developer today and asked if he could include it in the inbox tab. Because VoiceOver reads the podcast source in the Queue Tab.
@RDK @castropodcasts Right. When they get to it, I hope the work I did with the previous owners will be restored because I spent a lot of time with them on the optimal order that the information speaks. In this case, we had the source after the episode title. This is because if you hear enough of a title to know the episode doesn’t interest you, you can move on. But if the content does interest you, you can wait for the full title and then hear the source of the content. When we had it working this way it was efficient and beautiful.
@JonathanMosen @castropodcasts Have you been in touch with the new developer?
@RDK @castropodcasts Yes, they showed a lot of commitment to getting to the botom of Castro and the Pinecast podcast host, which we use at Living Blindfully, not playing nice.
