NaiyerThis Thursday, the display of my barely a year old MacBook Pro went black out of blue. I was browsing the web when a black band started flickering on the right side of screen. A reboot greeted me with colored bands across the screen. After rebooting from Safe mode, I was greeted with extremely blurry screen which finally settled on black screen with a sad vertical line.
This is pretty disappointing turn of events. Over years, I've used all sorts of machines from HP, Dell, Lenovo and Asus, none of which gave me such a dramatic malfunction of display. My old Lenovo Legion is back on my desk as the backup device and still kicking despite embattled chassis. Let's see what happens with Apple Support, and how they treat me.
Update: As I suspected, the service center has quoted me a price for display replacement under accidental damage (due to stress as per their diagnostics).
This is extremely disappointing because the machine was never put under stress, fire or liquids. The machine used to be on the top of everything in the drawer. Sometimes, I used to put MagSafe charger on top but surely that can't be the cause of accidental damage.
Update: Things turned out pretty well at the end. Apple Support accepted the display replacement under AppleCare+ so the machine was repaired without any cost. I did have to explain a bit about the usage pattern and why this was not supposed to be an accidental damage.
