@chikashakai Love how they make the whole Satanic thing seem cute here :)

I honestly prefer it. Mayhem et al were just awful.

@chikashakai Hmm. Looked up one of their videos. One member has a red arm band thing with a Kanji on it. I suspect it’s misguided but flirting with Nazi symbolism never leads anywhere good imho.

@yon @chikashakai

That member is no longer with them.

And that is a brutal video. The trigger warnings I would put on it wouldn't fit on one hand.

@NaraMoore @chikashakai Apart from the arm thing (what are they called in English? I’m locked into the wrong Germanic language group) it’s pretty mild for me. Guess I grew up in a different time. BUT trigger warning would be good for a few specific scenes. I can see how others could be hurt by it.

When I grew we had church burnings, photos of real suicides, and murders with the Norwegian Black Metal nutcases.

But the funny thing is, there really super wasn’t any mass panic. People just shrugged really.

On a more positive note (proud of this pun) Hagane is pretty great. Love the drummer in their latest video:) Love that energy. All women bands from Japan is a cool trend.

@NaraMoore Japan has their own spin on various metal genres for sure. And I’ll tell you, it’s more fun than Norwegian black metal (whose origins are terrible in many ways) and other pretentious stuff.

That said, those eyes are bonkers. Even knowing its lenses it works real well to change one’s perception.

More metal idols I say, Babymetal proved that it works. (Plus all the all women metal bands are cool too.)

@yon Mana is currently my fav screamer.

I'd stream her show tonight but I already have tickets for MIYABI SAKURA.

Maybe I'll catch Lyric Holic tomorrow night.

@NaraMoore @yon do y'all know of any Japanese metal bands that have for lack of a better word "cleaner" vocals? Eg metal instrumentation rhythm etc, but no thrash/death vocals? Babymetal has a lot of songs that fit (I love The One), have been meaning to look for more

Sorry hope it was ok to jump in and ask

@ojou @yon

Tsukishiro Himari of isiliel

Clear melodic lyrics sung to Black Metal music.

@NaraMoore @yon your kamioshi no? I'll check it out!

@ojou @yon

Indeed that she is.

@NaraMoore @yon I spent most of the afternoon listening to her stuff on spotify. definitely the vibe I meant! had a good time! I should see if I can go to a performance in tokyo...

@ojou @yon

I'll keep an eye out. Most of the groups I can think of that might fit that description are Dark Pop and Gothic Punk.

@ojou @NaraMoore I’d say we are all anime family here, jump into anything as you see fit :)

Unlucky Morpheus
Hagane
Band-Maid
Lovebites
Nemophilia

Also
X-Japan
Galneryous

Plenty of them around. Plenty of non Japanese ones as well. I like the ridiculously good clean vocals genre. :)

@yon @ojou

I mainly listen to chika idols but Unlucky Morpheus is good.

@NaraMoore @ojou Ironically my favorite songs of theirs are covers without vocals :)

(Not that their songs or vocals are bad, but if you cover an absolute classic it’s difficult to compete with.)

@yon @NaraMoore thank you! Band maid I know, the others I don't (well I've heard of x-japan but never listened), will give a listen. Thank you!
@ojou @NaraMoore X-Japan has some absolute banger classics.

@NaraMoore Still amazes me when a small woman starts up serious harsh vocals. No hate or claim of being incapable, my brain just always takes 250ms to make the connection :)

Like Arch Enemy :)

For some interesting views and well informed opinions on both singing and vocal science check out “The Charismatic Voice” (she’s so innocent, but so so knowledgeable) and “Kristin Starkey” (insane voice and very knowledgeable. Lady can do harsh, clean metal, clean pop, and highest level opera. From crazy low to crazy high.)

Always fun to see these idols in your posts. I’d never hear (pun!) about them otherwise.

@yon @chikashakai

And in English it is called an armband.

@NaraMoore @chikashakai Seriously? That’s funny:) Got the same word in Swedish but then it’s some kind of jewelry around your wrist. Armbindel for the upper arm one.

It’s the worst when you get a word that sounds awkward to say. Like glad in English. It sounds so wrong to me.

@yon @chikashakai

Wrist would be "bracelet" (Jewlery) or "wristband" like they put on you at the hospital or a club.

@NaraMoore @chikashakai That’s why it threw me for a loop. Sometimes if it’s too close I don’t know if I’m just direct translating malarkey:)
