Today’s violence

Friends, My first thought on hearing about the attempted shooting of Donald Trump at a rally today in Pennsylvania was “I hope to god he’s okay.” I thought this for the usual reasons we human beings hope that other humans are safe from harm. But I had another reason in the case of Donald Trump.

@rbreich pardon me if I don’t condemn a fascist getting injured in a shooting. You can’t go around condoning violence and oppression, and then be shocked if someone tries to stop you violently.
@MisterPants @rbreich kind of a "paradox of tolerance" response?
I can see that.
For me, Trump is ... just an awful ... awful human being - but I think I'm still in the "you can't just go around shooting people" camp. I've said it before, Trump isn't the problem, there will always be people like him, it's the people that vote for him that are the problem and shooting him won't fix those people.
This is a hell of a can worms that just opened up though, I am wary of escalation.
@BoscoZebra @MisterPants @rbreich Trump is the problem now! There will be others like him but each one has to be stopped before anarchy sets in.
