Is it just me or is this going *way* better than r/place? - Pawb.Social

Whenever Reddit hosted r/place, it got instantly dominated by streamers and massive clans covering the canvas in their insignia, anybody else who wanted to draw be damned. I remember in 2022 I was working with a smaller subreddit to try to put a 16x16 graphic somewhere unobtrusive and could scarcely put 3 pixels down before getting overwritten by the German flag that was already taking up 1/3 of the canvas. On Canvas yesterday, somebody put up a drawing of Princess Celestia fighting Nightmare Moon (something that wouldn’t have survived 20 seconds on Reddit before being vandalized) and the people drawing the osu! logo went behind it! I’m just kind of amazed and stunned and glad that we seem to be infinitely better at silently collaborating and not stepping on each other than the people on That Other Site who are obsessed with pointless internet clout.

On the contrary, I’ve been unable to make an account and anytime I visited the site it’s been 50/50 if it was up or down
What’s been your problem with making an account? If you’re trying to do it from Lemmy, it should be very straight forward (you just need to be able to receive or send DMs, so if your instance has disallowed that somehow, I guess that would cause a problem.)
Ive been having issues with any fediverse link with a subdomain. I let the devs know.
There’s a (very) active Matrix server for the event, with folks willing to help troubleshoot, if you’re still interested in sorting it out.
Thanks might do that later. Lemmy works so we are ok.
I was an idiot this whole time and did not enter the subdomain of my instance
Least you solved the problem! :)
Same thing happened to me! The unstoppable flags incorporated my art into theirs instead of destroying it
In general I find the community here to be less destructive and more collaborative :)

There are also far far fewer of us. Peak user count I’ve seen was just over 400. I’d bet unique users was in the 10k range.

Place was seeing millions of users. Lot more competition going on for space.

The first r/place felt like this, the other editions devolved into what people (streamers and communities that were not regular users of Reddit) called “pixel wars” when it was absolutely NOT the mood of the event
Empathy is a beautiful thing ❤️😍
I drew the word “Mexico” with the colors of the flag yesterday all by myself and not only I could finish it, it’s still up. I love you guys.
Up until they started to try to take down the NCD NATO flag at least
A moderate amount of fighting keeps it interesting IMO.

The first canvas was like that. I was able to put my name in there and no one messed with it.

I was honestly surprised when it was over and it was still there because I wasn’t monitoring it at all.

i had to assemble people to take down a Russian flag
