I’ve lately been resisting the urge to vent online about Montreal transit lately. Mainly because I’m not seeing a lot of hope right now.

But if the STM should throw their light behind one area for improvement it’s buses.

They need widespread improvement, from things like more bus lanes (yes, I know they’re coming) to priority signals, rear boarding and a better layout inside the vehicles so people can actually circulate inside when they’re rammed.

All low hanging fruit.

#Montreal #transit

@heliomass totally agree, and there is so much to do too.

I will add to this that the #CAQ government has decided to cut funding for new elevators in 6 more subway station. They are expensive but absolutely necessary for many people, potential "clients" who will start using public transport instead of relying on cars or #paratransit

#Montreal associative sector is trying its best to include public transportation in its revendications. We organized a protest a few weeks ago and more actions should be organized this fall for better funding for the #STM and regional public transit.

@bogdanoviste @heliomass fuck seriously? cutting into accessibility?

One of the best thing Ontario did was to mandate accessibility for every stations 20 years ago, deadline being 2025. They are not going to hit that deadline but almost will by 2026. It was a colossal effort.

I was kind of shocked visiting MTL few weeks ago and noticed how absent elevators were in stations.

After 20 Years, Torontonians Will Have to Wait Even Longer for an Accessible TTC | The Local

Until this September, the TTC reported being on-track to meet its 2025 deadline for provincially mandated accessibility improvements. The transit authority had two decades on the clock—where did it go wrong?

The Local

@jerome @heliomass Montreal is one of the worst city when it comes to subway accessibility. It's even less excusable when we consider that the network is not that old compared to London's, Paris' or New York's. They should have known better in the 60s.

If you know people in Quebec who could help us, my association is trying to put pressure on CAQ's governement to invest again in accessibility. The situation is critical, considering the STM may loose precious expertise if the stop building new elevators. People in Quebec can fill this form to contact directly their local elected officials as well as the CAQ government.

@bogdanoviste @heliomass just another two years until Uncle Franky gets the boot 🤞
@jszym @bogdanoviste Oh god I hope so. Have to cross our fingers he’s not replaced with someone worse though.
@bogdanoviste Wow. It doesn’t surprise me the CAQ would to that as my opinion of those sociopathic trolls couldn’t be much lower, but I’m shocked the STM isn’t finding some funds to keep those accessibility projects going.
