What am I doing wrong? Whenever I try to do thinner layers, I end up with pooling and tide marks, and even though I try to build up the layer, it still doesn't look smooth. At this point I'm about ready to give up on layering

@Moah I always figured the trick was using a proper medium to thin, not just water (which might have different flow properties to the paint)
@stroughtonsmith I'm using a medium here
@stroughtonsmith to be fair, I'm using a home made medium, made from Windsor and Newton mat medium, and it's entirely possible I didn't put enough of the actual medium into it
@Moah it might depend on your paints too; like for Citadel there's a different medium for contrast vs regular paints, as they all flow and mix differently. Other than that I've got nothing, though! 😅

@stroughtonsmith no congrats paint here, it's all traditional opaque paint, one ak interactive, one citadel and two reapers.

Also let me tell you that I understand why ak interactive is everyone's favorite. It went down smooth

@Moah Looks like you have too much water in the paint. I keep a dropper bottle with just a couple drops of Flow-Aid in it that seems to cut down on tide marks significantly. I don't always remember to use it. Also, some paints with low pigment density just seem terrible for smooth layers.
@Slyphic yeah I wouldn't be surprised if the reaper paints were this bad.
