📚 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱𝘀 📚

This summer I have resolved to spend more time without a screen on the sunny balcony and to finally read through my piled up Data Viz book list in a focused way. So I want to share what I've read, my favorite takeaways and hopefully make you take a look at your pile of unread books :)

So let's go!

𝗠𝘆 𝗦𝘂𝗺𝗺𝗲𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮 𝗥𝗲𝗮𝗱 #𝟭: 𝗡𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴𝗮𝗹𝗲 𝗜𝘀𝘀𝘂𝗲 𝟰 "𝗘𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻"

I received the magazine from the Data Visualization Society as a prize for winning the Top Contributor Award for the Du Bois Challenge in the spring, but just now I have finished it in just a few sessions. I enjoyed the diversity of the articles in terms of their angle on emotion, but also the visual style of each article is excellent and unique.

My favorite article is "The Case Against Neutrality - Why (and How) We Should Acknowledge Affective Intents" by Elsie Lee-Robins @elsieleerobbins, because it gave me not only words for something seemingly intangible, but also a concrete framework for describing and deciding for and against visualization goals.

What an entertaining book concept to get to know people in the data viz community! Each chapter features an interview with a data viz practitioner interwoven with the work. I especially enjoyed learning about people I had never heard of before.

@kristin_baumann This is neither here, nor there. But I 100% take my dataviz and infographic book recommendations from this post and your account.

Thank you for sharing! 📝 📚 👀 ✨
