SCOTUS decision today "almost certainly means there are virtually no limits on what a president can do," says President Biden, calling it dangerous and "undermines the rule of law of this nation."

@w7voa

I would have liked it better if he just came out (in the damn aviators) and laughed for about 3min did some finger guns and said "thanks for the upgrade suckers" and walked away.

@futurebird @w7voa

The trick is the Supremes decide what is official and what isn’t. Supremes support Trump, not Biden. Isn’t that the problem?

@wa7iut @w7voa

My understanding is that this order does very little but create room for delay.

They can, as always, become more meddlesome and just randomly reverse and change things (for example plucking Bannon out of prison)

Three of them may be ready to be that buck wild... but I don't know if there are five.

@futurebird @wa7iut @w7voa Notably Barrett, who seems to be a true believer not a fascist, explicitly stated that the fake electors scheme was not an “official act” in her view
@njwatt @futurebird @wa7iut @w7voa One way to view the court's ruling is that it simply delayed any Trump trials until after the election. She was on board for that.
@glennsills @futurebird @wa7iut @w7voa I’m not here to defend ACB by any means, just to say she doesn’t seem to be on board with a genuinely imperial presidency

@njwatt @glennsills @wa7iut @w7voa

I think both of you are correct. She has a limit but is still a bit of a partisan and willing to bend the court to partisan ends.

I wish she'd think about what will happen to courts in the world of a Trump presidency a little more. She might realize that the candidate she is supporting simply cannot be allowed to have power.

He was calling for "televised military tribunals" just the other day and nobody seems to care. I feel like I'm taking crazy pills.

@futurebird @glennsills @wa7iut @w7voa I’ve been thinking a lot lately about Señor Morrison, my middle school Spanish teacher. A kind and understanding man.

He was absolutely baffled that a Central American leader had turned into a brutal dictator because “I just don’t see how an evangelical Christian could do that.”

@njwatt @futurebird @wa7iut @w7voa This just shows you that humans are still much more about their 'tribes' than we often think. This ruling doesn't make much sense at all, especially for the "textualist" , unless you consider that they are ruling in favor of their tribe. If they don't, they will suffer the consequences.

@wa7iut @w7voa

Oh and if they get "buck wild" it's time to pack the court.

They have not yet crossed that line, but they are flirting with it openly.

@futurebird @wa7iut @w7voa I'm thinkin' it's like ILlinois politics: who do they owe favors to?
