"Don't exaggerate, Fascism hasn't arrived here yet"

I'll be sure to tell my Gypsy friends that, they'll be pleased to find out their way of life has not been made illegal.

Fascism is here, if you haven't noticed yet then your privilege has sheltered you from it. For now.

👇a quick checklist, how many of these don't apply?
@JoeGrowling Not sure that religion and government are too badly intertwined here (unless you count the bishops in the HoL, but of course that's nothing new), but I reckon all the others apply.
@statsguy @JoeGrowling I’d posit that the only one that didn’t quite apply to the UK was the supremacy of the military.
@JoeGrowling This describes Sunak’s Tories to a T.
@JoeGrowling I would argue it's more that liberalism is not as many might assume the opposite of fascism. The distinction has more to do with the size of the in-group that's tolerated and allowed to abuse others, and how open and uncowed the oppression is, rather than that their character is fundamentally different.
@JoeGrowling *checks who just assumed as president in Argentina* well I think the only thing missing is fraudulent elections. People Really voted for him, as far as I know.
@JoeGrowling I would add glorifying and re-writing national history to the list.
@JoeGrowling In Finland 5 don't apply. After Sanna Marin's government, we now have a far right/fascist governent that is taking the country down to sewer.

@JoeGrowling

That whole "you don't have to wonder what you would have done in 1930s Germany as you are doing it right now" thing.

Why are we not rioting in the streets on a daily basis?

@robcornelius @JoeGrowling I ask myself that every single day! I lived and fought through the Thatcher years, this lot are far worse!!!!
@JoeGrowling

Oh yeah, some fellow Poles will say that the wall on Polish-Belarusian border is "national security", but it's 100% fascism.
@JoeGrowling Who’s talking? Pooh or Piglet?
