@TheBreadmonkey I went for Fontaines DC instead of Idles and fear I chose poorly. But on the upside I was down in the mosh with Fat Dog tonight. And Hak Baker was awesome.

@julianlawson

I've seen Fontaines before and think they are excellent. Difficult choice. No wrong moves. How was it?

@TheBreadmonkey they reminded me of Oasis (who I've only seen half a time - long story). Technically excellent, lots of swagger but seemed very disengaged from the audience.

@julianlawson

Who did you see? List me, baby! I genuinely want to know. Highs and lows?

@TheBreadmonkey I'll list you like a mofo when we're back in the car. The only two disappointing sets across everything we're Fontaines (still decent) and Sleafords (lacklustre). Everything else was cracking.
@TheBreadmonkey right
Back in the car. Thursday, Greenpeace, ARXX 4/5, Brighton duo making banging heavy pop - imagine a female Royal Blood doing Pat Bematar. So nice to see a band chuffed to bits to be playing Glastonbury; the love between the band and the audience was palpable. #glastonbury 1/27
@TheBreadmonkey Thursday, Greenpeace, Lambrini Girls 3/5. Great energy, great delivery but very samey. #glastonbury 2/27
@TheBreadmonkey Thursday, Glade, The Orb, 3/5 DJ set #glastonbury 3/27
@TheBreadmonkey Thursday Greenpeace, Lynks, 4/5. Gay disco bangers with smart lyrics and great energy. Absolutely insanely overcrowded. 4/27 #glastonbury
@TheBreadmonkey Thursday Strummerville Fat Dog 4/5, see 26/27 for review
@TheBreadmonkey Friday West Holts Sofia Kourtesis 4/5 lovely Peruvian beats to start the day #glastonbury 6/27
@TheBreadmonkey Friday West Holts Squid 3.5/5. I like discordant chaotic music up to a point; I wasn't sure which side of the point Squid were. (Black Midi and Battles make me want to destroy my radio). I really liked this, and mentally comprehended it by comparing to my favourite band Pavement (two drummers, two vocalists occasionally singing over each other etc). 7/27 #glastonbury
@TheBreadmonkey Friday, Park, This Is the Kit, 3/5. Lovely music, that's all #glastonbury 8/27
@TheBreadmonkey Friday, Park, Dexys, 3/5. Decent show, was good to hear a couple of hits, KR voice is still great, quite a bit of filler #glastonbury 9/27
@TheBreadmonkey West Holts, Heilung, 5/5. I knew what to expect from friends who are fans, but was blown away by everything - theatre, instruments, sound quality. As my friend said, "they out-Gated Goat!" #glastonbury 10/27
@TheBreadmonkey Friday Park King Krule 3/5 only caught a bit of the set but enjoyed. Edward gave it 1/5. #glastonbury 11/27
.
@TheBreadmonkey Park, Fontaines, 4/5. Technically great but felt a bit like they were dialling it in. #glastonbury 12/27
@TheBreadmonkey Friday, Arcadia, Joy Orbison. Just caught a little bit and heard my favourite track Pinky Ring. I don't know who you are obbb-a-wobbbwobbbwob. #glastonbury 13/27
@TheBreadmonkey Saturday, West Holts, 47soul, 4/5 (experience) 3/5 (music). Fantastic shamstep sounds from this Palestinian band. #glastonbury 14/27

@TheBreadmonkey Saturday, Woodsies, Mannequin Pussy, 5/5. A shout out to Radio 6 Dads, piss-taking of BBC censorship, sexiness, moshpits and great songs. What more could you ask for? *

*maybe to not have your glucose sensor ripped off your arm in the moshpit (again). And to have drunk that can of Stella in your backpack before the gig, but fortunately it was good drying weather.

#glastonbury 15/27

@TheBreadmonkey Saturday, Park, Aruj Aftar, 4/5. Beautiful gossamer Urdu pop. I lay back in the grass, staring at the little fluffy clouds and the seagulls floating lazily on the thermals and thought "Julian, this is what happiness is" #glastonbury 16/27
@TheBreadmonkey Saturday, Woodsies, Yard Act, 5/5. I quite like Yard Act. They're quite good. But not quite my kind of thing. I was dragged along. They were brilliant. I was wrong. #glastonbury 17/27
@TheBreadmonkey Saturday, Woodsies, Sleafords, 1/5. Seemed really pissed off to be there, Jason's shorts kept falling down, crap lighting. Saw them in 2014 and they were 5/5 then. Shame. #glastonbury 18/27
@TheBreadmonkey Saturday, Woodsies, Gossip 5/5. Storming performance. Disclaimer: I wandered off to warm myself at the Tolpuddle Fire and got distracted by a Maori fire ritual, then listened to the rest from a little tea tent next to the stage. I had peppermint tea, and it was made up to look Levantine with cushions on the floor. I recommend both Gossip and the tea tent wholeheartedly. And the Maori. #glastonbury 19/27
@TheBreadmonkey Sunday, Glade, Cassetteboy and DJ Rubbish 4/5. A great Tory-bashing set that had me crying with laughter and shouting with fury. 378/27 #glastonbury
@TheBreadmonkey Sunday Glade, An Dannsa Dub 3/5. Gaelic dub. #glastonbury
@TheBreadmonkey Sunday Glade, Don Letts DJ 3/5. Started with reggae covers to get the crowd started, then laid on some great heavy dub... But alas we had to leave for.. #glastonbury
@TheBreadmonkey Sunday Park Baxter Dury 3/5. Good... But it feels like much of the quality of the songs is due to the backing singer. #glastonbury

@julianlawson

Always wondered how he would hold up live. I'm on the fence about him although I'm quite fond of a couple of songs.

@TheBreadmonkey would you now like a detailed review of every meal I ate, or toilet highlights? Only just hit the m4

@julianlawson

Food highlights please. Best and worst. Would you go again. Funniest incident. Friends you made you might keep in touch with. Biggest weirdo. Was it mentally busy or easy to cope with. What was the general vibe.

@TheBreadmonkey would I go again? This is my 7th or 8th Glasto, and my first since 2016. Tbh I am no spring chicken, and I felt pretty tired from the combo of dancing plus walking between stages. Plus, I fucking resent lining Chris Martin's fucking pockets

So I think I will get better value from smaller festivals. I'll see just as many great bands at Green Man in August, and put the energy into moshing and not dancing. And zero Coldplay fucks will be enriched.
