So looks like I am not the only one with incorrect tax certificates from Bonitas Medical Aid!

If you are with them check your tax certificate!!! Does the January increase reflect in December? If so they are claiming to SARS you paid 3x the higher rate (Dec, Jan & Feb) when it should only be Jan & Feb!!!

@flipsideza If they told SARS you paid the higher rate in Dec, AND the tax cert you got shows you paid the higher rate in Dec, can’t you simply claim that on your tax return and get a (slightly) bigger writeoff with SARS nonthewiser?! 😂 AND you have plausible deniability in the near-zero chance that gets spotted by an audit, because you “just used the tax cert”, of course!
@leoncowle Technically true, but sadly I am a touch too ethical to do that :|

@flipsideza That’s definitely commendable and I try to be as accurate as possible on my tax returns as well. But at some point, maybe it's ok to say “I tried. I really did. So now it is what it is.”?

Also, I don't know how it works in SA, but here in the US you don't submit any supporting documentation with your return. So here I would have the option of simply ignoring the incorrect tax certs, and just claiming the (slightly lower but correct) deduction on my return — in the IRS[SARS]’s favor!
