Kein Like ist illegal!

@ErikUden

I could get people deported by editing a post that they "liked".

@projektionsyta @ErikUden

Actually yes. Germany Ausländeramt does Not know about the History function of Mastodon.

Even better: Replace the Image. No way to verify what the Former Image was like. Probably also true for Alt-Text.

@Life_is @projektionsyta @ErikUden As the edit notice doesn't show images it would be an easy attack:
. Write a joke post for the target audience with a deliberate and obvious spelling error, and a related image
. Rake in the likes and boosts
. Edit the post, fixing the spelling and change the image and alt text to a terror message aligned with the joke

As most would have noticed the spelling error they'd just assume that's the reason for the edit and won't check if anything else changed.

@Mabande @Life_is @projektionsyta Servers technically store the time a post was liked by who, which is (possibly) also federated. However, you'd need to communicate a lot with server Admins and that data can easily be fabricated or lost, unless Admins store ALL the logs!

So, yeah. Most social networks have an edit function, but Mastodon's edits are fare more powerful! Also, as an admin, you could edit the post through the database, not even showing that the post was edited at all! I have never tested this, but there's a good chance that when you re-boost the post after having edited it through the database the edit gets federated without being shown as an “edit”.

So yeah, we're all screwed. Refugees could easily be targeted, and sooner than later everyone else too because these rules will be applied to us.

A message digest of uploaded images should be part of the URL path of the image. Then it could be verified from the toot source text if the Image was replaced. If a copy of the Image Has been saved, the message digest can be computed to Check if it is the Image associated with a specific Revision of the toot.
