Only just noticed that #Skype can now only be installed on #Linux using a #Snap package. Looks like I'm saying bye to Skype.

@mfraz74 that's horrifying. I mean, who really cares about Skype, but the idea that certain apps on Linux require a proprietary packaging format with a closed source repository, sets a bad precedent.

But I also have to wonder, if you dislike snaps, why are you using an official Ubuntu flavor? They're pushing snaps hard, and you have plenty of snap free options to choose from.

@mekuso I remove snapd as the first thing I do after installing the OS. Making sure to add the repos for Firefox and Thunderbird.

@mfraz74 okay, but like why? Why would you choose a distro that actively goes against your will, instead of a distro that is aligned with your own goals?

My guess is that Ubuntu will just become more and more snap based as time goes on (they're even making a 100% snap driven Ubuntu variant, where nothing other than snaps exist). That just means you'll get more and more work to do.
