Opinion | To Serve His Country, President Biden Should Leave the Race

The president’s inadequate performance in the debate made it clear he is not the man he was four years ago.

The New York Times
The mendacious editorial board knows full well this won’t happen and a replacement would lose. It’s so ridiculous that they argue for a sure victory for Trump through these bizarre blinders. They wanted, say, Haley versus Newsom or something.

@glennf a question from someone who has never been to the US, and is a huge advocate of social democracy: why is it a bad thing for Biden to pass the reigns to a younger candidate?

i recognise NYT’s pettiness towards Biden for the silliest of reasons, and their relentless attempts to cause him harm until he acquiesces, but what does B provide for the country that Harris, or someone else won’t?

@ashish Too late in the cycle. Incumbents generally win. Trump and Bush Sr are the huge exceptions since Carter, whom Reagan colluded against over hostage release. If Biden withdrew, guaranteed democratic loss.

@glennf
I knew one day you’d come around.
@geoffduncan I’ve never been on the other side!

@glennf
Sorry—context is probably missing, nothing about the presidential "race."

We've gone back and forth on a few occasions about the NYT being a paper of record and, being a west coast child, I've never considered the NYT relevant. So the text of your original toot gave be a brief twinge of hope for your soul. :)

@geoffduncan They have great reporters and a huge agenda problem and a generally terrible editorial board.
@glennf
I can't speak to the quality of reporters (obviously) but yes: as an institution they certainly seem to have several fundamental shortcomings.
@glennf @geoffduncan So exactly like the WSJ (except you can strike word generally for them.)
@glennf and they pushed a notification for it!
@Kevin I think this will convince a lot of people to tell him to stay in the race
