The very complicated story of the lone example of a possibly gay person possibly executed in Gaza

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Death_of_Mahmoud_Eshtewi

It's a messed up story, but not a very clear example of homophobia. It really bothers me how many genuinely messed up stories get turned into weirdly sexualised stereotypes.

I don't think he was even actually gay? A love affair with a male neighbour was just one of multiple sex scandals, rumours spread by political rivals.

The clearer example is not in Gaza

It's more likely he was gay, and it was more closely related to him being killed, but the reason a possibly closeted gay man was the target in that scenario seems to be mostly Shin Bet's fault? So that one gets used in the #pinkwashing a lot less often?

Plus one vigilante murder, explicitly for being gay, but that happens just as often in Israel, and more often elsewhere.
