Seine wohl erfolgreichste Aktion war die Intervention in den US Wahlkampf 2016. Damals gab er sich dazu her, in einer kritischen Situation russische Desinformation in die Medien zu pushen.
Dass Assange dann unter #Trump der Spionage angeklagt wird und unter #Biden nach vielen Jahren Isolation endlich freikommt, gehört wohl zu den Paradoxien des modernen Lebens.
In hiesigen Gefilden, merke ich, hat man die äusserst ambivalente Rolle #Assange's verdrängt und ergeht sich in teils peinlicher Heldenverehrung. Daher Rückblende zu 2016:

Man muss betonen, dass an den gehackten Emails der Demokratischen Partei keinerlei öffentliches Interesse bestand. Es war kein Whistleblowing, keine Aufdeckung irgendeines Skandals (denn es gab keinen). Es ging ausschliesslich darum, #Trump (“WikiLeaks, I love #WikiLeaks.”) zu unterstützen. 👇

Was #Assange sich dabei dachte, werden wir wohl nicht erfahren. Es wäre nicht untypisch für einen Mann wie er, wenn er aus persönlicher Eitelkeit gehandelt hätte.
Vermutlich rechnete er nicht damit, ausgerechnet unter #Trump der Spionage angeklagt zu werden. Viele Naivlinge lernen erst im Nachhinein, dass #Trump denen, die ihn oftmals speichelleckend unterstützen, nie Loyalität zeigt, sondern sie immer fallen lässt.
