@ml That's a good reason. Maths gets better the more you practise - but practising rules that don't make sense is doing it wrong. You have to keep digging until it DOES make sense, and then build it back up again.
What level / topics are you working with?

(Chemistry - can't help you. It was a memory hogging black box for me. My changeling child swears there's a logical structure there somewhere!)
