I had to steal this LinkedIn post from https://www.linkedin.com/in/micmerritt/. I always thought this supposed cybersecurity shortage was nothing more than an educational marketing hoax, so I'm glad to see I'm not alone. I completely agree with everything Mic says here. Managers looking for scapegoats jumped on this educational marketing hoax for the perfect scapegoat, as Mic explains. They can pretend they are trying to hire, while using this hoax as an excuse.
@siggib If they really cared they could hire people from 2-year associate’s degree cybersecurity programs but they don’t want to do that.
@MisuseCase Yep, there is so much they could be doing but they refuse to do. There are a lot of stories of folks with 4 year degree in cybersecurity that can't find a job, let alone those with a masters degree or ever years of experience.
All go to show to there is no shortage of talent, there is a shortage of companies willing to do the right thing.
