My parents watch a lot of Chinese TV. They get a lot of censorship approved news.

Their opinion is that Biden is old and senile. He can't talk straight and has lost his marbles.

They don't like Trump either but Biden is just terrible.

Something I want to point out:

Phoenix news, a very influential outlet in China is started by Rupert Murdoch and AFAIK they still have a stake in it.

An unstable America is great for Russia and China. So yes, while Trump is a racist POS, the levers of power in China, who have never given a crap about the diaspora are rooting for him because overall instability there is great for the motherland.

Asian Americans, talk to your parents. They might not be ok.

@chu the anti-biden campaign is such an obvious troll attempt. I'm not an american but it even I get second hand exposure which makes me wonder how do you even resist information attacks like this. It's true that Biden is old and goofs up sometimes but the truth distortion is so massive that it's impossible to correct for.

@wraptile

It's why I'm not very optimistic American can survive this. I mean it's in my best interest, as someone who lives in Canada, for them to hang in as long as possible, but also I feel like collapse is inevitable.

@chu I feel the opposite - I'm quite optimistic about US despite all of this.

The propaganda damage is real but by it's nature it's very overblown and difficult to evaluate. If you step back and look objectively most critical parts of the society are still being run by mostly sane people who care.

@wraptile

I hope you're right. I really do. The stakes are really high

@chu excellent message!!
@chu Reason 2573 that I am convinced that Murdoch was the unused eleventh plague that snuck out the back door when God was busy with something.
@chu do they know that US citizens are allowed to vote for anyone they want?
@chu
If possible... set them up with Taiwanese sources for streaming tv and for reading the news.

@littlebunnyubu

Easier said than done. I bought them a new TV thing and that decided to keep paying for the mainland service. That barely touch the one I got

@chu @littlebunnyubu if they liked the messaging of chaotic USA vs "strong and stable" China, watching Taiwanese TV is not going to make them more dislike it
@chu My elderly students in Japan are getting some of that too, much as I try to disabuse them. I think in Japan’s case, their media just act as stenographers for U.S. headlines, which are unfortunately dominated by right-wing editors these days.
