Twenty minutes of fireflies in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, near the famous Elkmont campground. The yellow sparkles are Photinus carolinus, the synchronous fireflies that have become a tourism sensation, and the greenish trails are the more enigmatic "blue ghost" Phausis reticulata.

@alexwild I'm so jealous. I have never seen them in real life before.
@alexwild it is sad to think that was 20 minutes worth. Fifty years ago, as a child, i would see way more of them. Now they are rare - like butterflies. So now, i gotta explain that there were once more butterflies too… I am too old to deny our impact on the world. I have witnessed it firsthand in my lifetime.
