Nuclear Fusion (The Milky Way): The light from the galaxy is produced by billions of stars fusing hydrogen into helium. It is the most violent and powerful process in the universe, yet from our perspective in the lavender, it looks just as delicate and quiet as a firefly's glow.
The Scale: A firefly lives for a few weeks; a star like our Sun lives for 10 billion years. Capturing them in the same frame is like seeing a single heartbeat and the history of time overlapping.
The Juxtaposition of Light
These tiny insects create light through a chemical reaction involving luciferin and oxygen. It is nearly 100% efficient light, meaning almost no energy is lost as heat. It’s a miracle of organic chemistry occurring right at our feet.

Among rows of blooming lavender, the air filled with fragrance, fireflies appeared like small lanterns beneath a sky dominated by the summer Milky Way, a perfect meeting between the wonders of Earth and the night sky above.
