@WuMargaret @mekkaokereke

that's true but what floods socials is "both sides the same" anti-intellectualism and troll farms pushing people to not vote with learned helplessness

so you get this cross chatter

"why are you standing against valid honest criticism of biden?" (they're not, the trolls are real and need push back)

vs

"why are trying to help trump" (they're not, they're engaged in honest criticism of biden and will vote for him)

so trolling works: everyone suspicious of motivations

@benroyce @WuMargaret

They are not "pushing back on trolls." They're shutting down valid criticism of Biden or any other centrists, mainly from Black folk. They know that we are (some of the very few!) real Black people on the fediverse. They just don't care.🤷🏿‍♂️

They don't accept anyone not showing fealty to Biden. They feel entitled to 95% or 100% of the Black vote. They say as much.

And some folk that have valid criticism of Biden will not vote for him. About 1 in every 5 Black men in fact.

@mekkaokereke @benroyce @WuMargaret

it's a basic civics misunderstanding, on both the part of anybody who would let that discourage them from voting strategically and the people who complain about those kinds of posts, to equate criticism with trying to lessen Biden's vote.

I mean why discuss issues and policy at all? who knows what silly ideas people might develop about who to support from that kind of talk? just tell people who to vote for and try to silence those who disagree.

@wjmaggos @mekkaokereke @WuMargaret

it's all about context

context, context, context

some people don't care to or understand the need to grasp context, or lack the nuance to see what it is and why it's important

@benroyce @mekkaokereke @WuMargaret

I guess but I'm not sure I've ever seen someone here that criticized Biden from the left seemingly just to try to hurt his turnout. They've been honest expressions of their views, even when they say they can't vote for him (which imo is a bad choice in states that could go either way). I've seen lots of posts trying to silence criticism of him without engaging the criticism.

And we don't yet have nearly the wide variety of views here that I'd like to see.

@wjmaggos @mekkaokereke @WuMargaret

because of context

there's plenty who will criticize biden but will still vote for him

and plenty who will criticize biden and never vote for him, despite everything on the line. self-destruction

then we have the criticisms and they're undecided. so let them speak and work through their frustrations

then we have nonamerican russian troll farm purposefully pushing learned helplessness

it's a shitstorm through and through

the problem is divining intent

@benroyce I hear Donny is down in the polls. 🤞🏻

@LuLuLove

Don't trust the polls.

They either say "Biden's winning," inspire false confidence, so people don't vote, then Trump wins

Or they say "Trump's winning," which depresses people, so they go "what's the point?", don't vote, and Trump wins

The only thing to do is #vote

It's a simple social responsiblity and a lot of our problems are from people who don't vote.

Vote

Nothing else matters. No other thought counts.

@benroyce @LuLuLove
Plus, besides polling in the USA not being able to accurately measure American public opinion anymore, fake push polls are being used by the GOP to prop up their fundraising too since people will stop donating their money to them if they start to think that Trump has no chance.

There's nothing we can do about what they do, but we can not react to their untrustworthy polls and instead just try to get more people to support Democrats this election year.

@benroyce @LuLuLove People need to remember that in 2016 just 25.7% of the US electorate (including those who didn't vote) voted for Trump. 74.3% didn't vote for him! Not voting means you will get a minority government.
