What is your favourite game with native Linux port? - Lemmy

For me, it’s Factorio [https://www.factorio.com/]. > a game in which you build and maintain factories. It even has Wayland support [https://forums.factorio.com/viewtopic.php?t=105436]! (Version 1.1.77» Fri Mar 03, 2023 3:44 pm) > #### Graphics > - Added support for Wayland on Linux. To enable it, set SDL_VIDEODRIVER=wayland in your environment. (thanks to raiguard [https://raiguard.me/]) What’s yours?

Off the top of my head: Half Life 2! OpenTTD, Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft.

OpenTTD, Dwarf Fortress, Minecraft

Let me link these, so anyone can check them out!

  • OpenTTD - amazing reviews for the free game from 14 Mar, 2004.
  • Dwarf Fortress - bought it, I have not played it yet, though. I know it got Linux port not so long ago.
  • Minecraft - I know this childhood gem, but I hate to have a Microsoft account on Linux and I know there are some launchers. Still hate to play for me single-player game with an account.
  • OpenTTD on Steam

OpenTTD is a business simulation game in which players earn money by transporting passengers and cargo via road, rail, water, and air. It is an open-source remake and expansion of the 1995 Chris Sawyer video game Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

Dwarf Fortress is quite the rabbit hole. It’s so much more than just a game. The complexity of the simulation has actually made me wonder about simulation theory IRL.

    It’s mind blowing.

It’s made by 2 brothers who said that is their life’s work.
The free version had a Linux build for a long time. The paid version adds new graphics, and it took a while for that to get a Linux release.
