Evening all. And now on #TOTP, "Something good".

Jez Willis and Tim Garbutt were the Utah Saints. Here, they sample "Cloudbusting" by Dame Kate Bush, the first time she'd let anyone sample her vocals for a dance banger.

#UtahSaints #KateBush

The original vid for "Cloudbusting" featured Donald Sutherland, who died yesterday.

After being rebuffed by his agent, Kate sealed the appearance after visiting Donald down in his hotel in London. Fitting the clip in between full feature films, the clip was filmed in two days.

Donald remembered, "She's wonderful, Kate Bush. Wonderful. I love that I did it."

"Damn, I wish I was your lover" - Sophie B Hawkins

Blimey, someone's horny! "Come inside my jungle book", a top-grade euphemism.

Sophie got her break after slipping a demo to Marc Cohn of "Walking in Memphis" fame. We can tell why she was signed - the song threatens to drop into AOR landfill, but those synth breaks and the sheer passion rescue it.

And Bob, don't bother, the flag on the mike stand is your clue.

This week's AI prompt: two men in white robes, sat over a chessboard, one holding a cuddly sheep, beneath gently strobing lights, as a noodling trip-house tune plays in the background.

"Blue room" from The Orb.

The original idea was to have a kickabout on screen, but producers nixed that coz cameras might get hit. By the end of the session, the crew were all "If you move from your seat, I will checkmate you."

"The one" - Elton John
Title track to his album, which is somewhat forgotten these days. A shame - it's the bridge from "Sacrifice" to his work on "The Lion King".

The video's from Russell Mulcahy, a legendary name in pop videos and other film stuff.

"It only takes a minute" - Take That
Jason, Robbie, Howard, Mark, and the other one do their cover of the Tavares number.

Three earlier hits from the quintet had flopped, and management would have canned the project - "New Kids on the Block, but English" - if this had also failed.

Tours of schools and gay clubs built a fanatic and loyal audience, and low sales in June helped.
#TOTP #TakeThat

Some years later, after leaving Take That, Robbie Williams dropped in on The Orb in their studios.

"I want to meet The Orb, I think they're amazing. That #TOTP changed my life." He'd never seen a band come in, and boss about telly folk like Stanley Appel and Arch Dyson.

Robbie and The Orb collaborated on 1997 track "I started a joke".

"Make love like a man" ask Def Leppard.

The "Adrenalize" album was the band's tribute to guitarist Steve Clark, who'd died at the start of 1991.

They wanted to celebrate life, heard here in this big and bombastic piece of cock rock that desperately wants to get laid.

Compare and contrast against Sophie B Hawkins' horny song earlier.

"Take a chance on me" - Erasure

From the Abba-esque EP, with toast by MC Kinky.

Long-term ABBA fans Vince and Andy had covered the group before, and initially planned to do a full album of covers - slimmed down to just four songs because their other interpretations weren't good enough.

In the ABBA revival timeline, it's three years since "Edelweiss", and nine weeks to "ABBA Gold".

Two football results from this day: Netherlands 3-1 Germany, and Scotland 3-0 CIS. In the next round, Germany will go on to play Sweden, the Netherlands play Denmark.

The first mystery year was 1992.

Now, continuity announcer, can you alter the usual #TOTP incantation to ensure a Bob Geldof-free edition next?

David Jensen hosts this edition.

Chart music was Goldie - "Making up again"

Black Sabbath - "Never say die"
The band's last album with Ozzy Osbourne, in part because he was pissed out of his skull, in part because he was up with the lark and the rest of the band were night owls.

This explosive title track is one of the few great songs on the LP. And still more contemporary than Def Leppard.

Showaddywaddy - "A little bit of soap"
Massive hit in Asia for Cliff Fornander back in 1963, but never a hit here until now. It'll head into the top five, continuing the Leicester band's reign.

The soap bubbles on stage are easy to explain. Why most of the audience have come dressed as sailors, that I don't know.

Marshall Hain - "Dancing in the city"
Class, open your copies of Flick Colby's Book of Literal Choreography. Turn to page 1.
#TOTP #Showaddywaddy

David Coverdale's Whitesnake - "Bloody Mary"
Blues rock. Forgotten even by the band, who are believed only to have played it in one concert.

Heatwave - "Mind blowing decisions"
Fifth hit for the disco collective, honed by producer Barry Blue. This tune has been sampled and interpolated by oodles of rap performers, from Da Brat to Vanilla Ice.
#TOTP #Whitesnake #Heatwave

Brotherhood of Man - "Beautiful lover"
Tony Hillier's band are back, picking more elements out of the lyric tombola. "Rio" "no speaka da lingo", and more braggadocio than Def Leppard.

San José - "Argentine melody"
BBC theme to the 1978 men's football world cup.

Rod Argent would go on to compose ITV's 1986 theme; I don't recall what Mr. Webber did afterwards, so it can't be much good.
#TOTP #BrotherhoodOfMan #AndrewLloydWebber

Thin Lizzy - "Rosalie"
Digging a bit into their back catalogue, this Bob Seger cover was on 1975's "Fighting" album. It had been a big hit on their live performances, and promoted a forthcoming live album.

Bob Marley & The Wailers - "Satisfy my soul"
Another massive star in the studio tonight, with the lead single from "Kaya". The album was panned on release and loved now, this lead single a standout track.
#TOTP #ThinLizzy #BobMarley

John Travolta & Olivia Newton‐John - "You're the one that I want"
You want to see the video? Olivia Newton-John being the horniest person we've seen since Sophie B Hawkins?
Tough, here's Legs & Co with Floyd.

Playout is David Soul - "It sure brings out the love in your eyes"
Fifth and final hit single for David, who had 18 months as a pop star then returned to acting.
Are you watching, Robson and Jerome?!

The second mystery year was 1978.

Glastonbury means we have just *one* episode next week, from 1996 with Chris Eubank and a song from Suggs. The full #TOTP fourplay returns on 5 July.

Whatever you're doing this week, have a great one!
