The Biden FTC is on a roll.

It banned noncompete clauses.

It blocked the Kroger/Albertsons merger that would send grocery bills skyrocketing.

Now it's taking action against Adobe for allegedly trapping users in pricey subscriptions.

This is government working for the people.

@rbreich All incredibly welcome, but let's not forget that the traditional big industry approach to this kind of action is just to spend money dragging out the legal battles until a. Republican president gets in and kills the action against the corporates.

Starting the ball rolling is welcome but it's going to be a decade before we'll know whether it's succeeded or not.

@georgepotter @rbreich do you think they'd wait for a republican president to get elected and merely spend money to entrench the legal process? No way, they'd happily spend money right now to descend US into fascism to ensure they are left alone to carry on pillaging the public.
@htpcnz @rbreich of course. But my point is that, even if Biden wins in November, these actions against monopolists won't actually mean anything will change until and unless the legal cases end in victory many years from now. This is like planting an acorn but acting like you just grew a whole tree.
@georgepotter @rbreich sure, buy you'd expect highly paid risk analyst/business consultants etc working for these corporations / elites will be advising them to make sure it is a big IF by spending now - to even make big Biden donations in turn using that leverage to restrict what he can do directly to win more popular support and grow apathy in voter base in run up to the election.

@rbreich

I've been impacted by 1 and 3. Currently using a 6+ year old laptop because I have a paid-for copy of #Adobe #Lightroom that won't run on newer machines. No upgrade path other than "The #AdobeTax" to rent the software. Dumped #Photoshop for #AffinityPhoto several years back since I need it only occasionally.

@rbreich Don't forget to thank Taylor Swift too

"Taylor Swift ended up converting more Gen Zers into anti-monopolists overnight than anything I could have done."

@rbreich @binaryphile

But Biden has done NOTHING for voting rights. Baffling.

@rbreich now if only they'd go after microsoft who impacts far more people negatively
