Was there ever any greater admission of bullshitting than "We have evidence, but we're not going to reveal it at this time"

Can anybody on this network come up with a single reason for not revealing your evidence, that makes sense in any legal scenario?

"I won't give you a reason to believe me beyond my own magnetic charm, because... um... that would give you time to think about it and realise it's crap"

@uastronomer

I read it as having an unspoken next line: "Make me."

To me, it's not about truth, it's about power, and it's testing the waters. It's a test to see whether they can bullshit people and get away with it, or whether anyone is powerful enough to force them to submit.

I could be wrong.

@passenger Oh no you're exactly right. He has realised he'll never be chief so long as we remain a democracy so his goal, his spoken out loud, printed in his election manifesto, is to scrap the constitution and restore the old tribal chieftain system. He wants chiefs who answer to kings, who answer to him.

"This is why Zuma attacks the law so often, as he knows that for most people listening to him, the law has not only not worked for them, but often worked against them. That he was president and head of the state while this happened was conveniently unimportant for this argument."

Chaos Is The Point: Jacob Zuma’s empty and violent rhetoric aims to hurt South Africa’s democracy

While the political choices of 68% of South Africa’s voters are represented in the new coalition government, the leader of the biggest group that is not represented, former president Jacob Zuma, has again made multiple threats. His ‘statement to the nation’ on Sunday again reveals his obsession with, and perhaps hatred of, President Cyril Ramaphosa.

@uastronomer

I remember reading a Russian article some years ago, which said that Putin lies to Russians not because he thinks he'll be believed, but as a form of humiliation: it reminds them that they're powerless to get the truth. He can tell them that black is white, and they have to make at least a public show of believing it.

@uastronomer

"we don't have evidence but we need time for this particular conspiracy theory to spread and take root amongst our followers, and vague insinuations are much more compelling than actual allegations that might be proved wrong."
