The war in Gaza has wiped out entire Palestinian families. AP documents 60 who lost dozens or more

Israeli airstrikes are eradicating entire Palestinian families in Gaza, sometimes generations at a time, to a degree never seen before in previous conflicts there. An Associated Press investigation identified at least 60 Palestinian families where at least 25 people were killed between October and December. Several families have almost no one left to document the toll. It was the deadliest and most destructive period of the war. Israel says it takes measures to mitigate against civilian deaths. The International Court of Justice is considering whether Israel is committing genocide against Palestinians in Gaza. The killing of families across generations is a key part of the case.

The war in Gaza is wiping out entire Palestinian families, one branch at a time. This is how

Dozens of families have lost 25 or more of their members in Israeli strikes in the first three months of the Gaza war. AP identified 60 families and analyzed 10 strikes that were among the deadliest between October and December. To look at how these families were killed, sometimes four generations in the same strike, AP analyzed 10 strikes across the Gaza Strip between October and December that killed over 500 people. Talking to analysts, witnesses and verifying available online visuals, AP found the strikes hit residential buildings and shelters with families inside. In no case was there an obvious military target or direct warning to those inside, and in one case the family said they had raised a white flag on their building.

@rameshgupta @AP @ap Amnesty? The same Amnesty that condemned Ukraine as being responsible for their civilians deaths?

https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions/2022/08/13/amnesty-ukraine-civilians-at-risk-why-i-quit/

What Amnesty got wrong in Ukraine and why I had to resign

Far from protecting civilians, Amnesty's latest Ukraine report further endangered them by giving Russia a justification to continue its indiscriminate attacks.

The Washington Post
@rameshgupta @AP @ap also: would anyone be surprised if Hamas is shown to be a cesspool of nepotism? A family with ties to Hamas is likely to have more members involved - or does anyone believe Hamas is a “meritocracy”, and a powerful Hamas leader would not favor his family in every possible way?

And 60 families are even MORE likely to have even MORE members involved in “HUNDREDS of Hamas-linked organizations,” right #cherryPicking investigative reporters? No sample bias at all 🙄

Associated Press has higher journalistic standards than most media outlets, but they blew it here by platforming this #Beirut reporter

TWO reports dropping nearly simultaneously from SAME reporter in #Beirut to DOUBLE the probability that the #cherryPicked propaganda will be seen. I should’ve added #DUPLICITOUS [sic, English is not my first language] to “inconsistent, contradictory, and biased messages” above 😂
