best_username_everIIRC, it’s controlled by the carrier and not encrypted. If that’s the case, it’s bad. We’ve been moving away from carriers and internet providers, and got some privacy back by various means. Why would be roll that back?

The whole world except a minority moved away from SMS a long time ago.
They’ve moved on to specific platforms, not open standards. Ultimately, that’s not a good thing. Like when Twitter effectively replaced RSS for a lot of use cases.
