"Dad, I’m hungry."

"Hi, hungry. I’m Dad."

There's an example of the beloved form of humor: The Dad Joke.

But what makes something a dad joke instead of just a corny joke? We've got two folklorists answering that question and looking at the history of the 'art' form. Happy Father's Day to all the Dads out there, funny or not!

An homage to the dad joke, one of the great traditions of fatherhood

Cringe, corny and awkward − what’s not to love?

The Conversation

@TheConversationUS @folklore I'd like to point out that this joke doesn't work in Spanish at all.

"I'm hungry" translates to "I have hunger."
"I'm Dad" translates to "My name is Dad".

We just saved so many Spanish speakers the agony of this joke.
